We know you haven't seen us at the market the past few weeks and we want to let you know that we WILL be back.  I have been recovering from a back injury and following my doctor's orders to limit my activities until it has repaired itself.  I fully expect to be back within the next couple of weeks, but if you need anything in the meantime, please phone and we will make arrangements to get it to you.

About Crofter's Garden Nursery

Crofter's Garden Nursery is located in the mid-coast region of Maine, just off coastal Route 1, midway between Wiscasset and Rockland.  We are currently growing decorative trees, fruit trees, woody shrubs (including Maine blueberries!) and perennials.

You can visit us during the Farmer's Market season at the Boothbay Farmer's Market (located at Boothbay Common, Route 27 in Boothbay) every Thursday from 9am to noon.  Come and experience the unique atmosphere of the Boothbay Market.  Enjoy a coffee and browse the vendors tents under the summer sun in mid-coast Maine!   Visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, located only a mile away, then come to the market inspired and looking for unique and lovely plants for your own garden!

You can also visit the nursery in Waldoboro by phoning ahead to (207)832-5700.

What are we doing now?

We have finally finished with the delivery of our wholesale sales of grafted Japanese Maple trees, which involved shipping or delivering the trees to nursery buyers around the country.   This year's unusually warm spring brought many challenges in getting the plants to our clients (they couldn't be shipped because they began leafing much earlier than usual!) and Andy ended up having to drive over 6,000 miles to get everyone's plants to them.   With about 20 varieties, it was quite a project.   We are hoping that next year, the weather will be more cooperative and we will be able to to return using shipping services as we have in the past.

We have started a NEW project!  We are raising money for medical assistance for Haiti.  After the earthquake, Andy (a retired RN) joined a team of medical professionals in Haiti for over two weeks offering all types of medical help in an area badly in need.  The organization International Medical Assistance Team (IMAT) was formed to provide medical teams to areas needing medical assistance after disasters.  Upon Andy's return, he wanted to continue to help the Haitians and has formed the Mid-Coast Medical Team for Haiti.  This organization is raising funds and supplies to send other mid-coast medical professionals (doctors, nurses, paramedics, physical therapists, etc.) to Haiti as part of medical assistance teams.  You may make monetary donations to: Mid-Coast Medical Team for Haiti at any branch of The First, NA or mail to The First, NA, P. O. Box B, Waldoboro, ME 04572.  The Waldoboro Police station is the drop-off for any supplies during normal business hours.  For any questions about donations please feel free to contact Andy at 207.832.5700.

LINCOLN COUNTY NEWS ARTICLE

In connection with raising funds and after a very successful fund-raising sale of our Japanese Maples in April, we have decided to continue with our "Trees For Haiti" fundraising.  For every Japanese Maple Tree purchased this season at the Boothbay Farmer's Market we will donate $5.00 to the Mid-Coast Medical Team for Haiti.

We are looking forward to this coming season and are particularly looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

Who We Are

Crofter's Garden Nursery is owned and operated by Andy Kennedy, originally from Western Scotland.  Andy moved to the United States after marrying the then, Kristin Hunnibell and continued his career as a registered nurse here in the US.  When a work related injury required him to give up his operating room duties, he decided to pursue his passion for gardening.  With help for the heavy work, he has propagated and grown thousands of plants all hardy to the coastal Maine winters we experience.  Andy welcomes inquiries and suggestions from customers who are looking for unusual or special plants.  If we don't have it, chances are, we can find it!

About Our Name - Crofter's Garden

What is a crofter?  A crofter is someone who farms a croft, a small farm generally between two and eight acres and usually in the West of Scotland.  With Andy coming from the West of Scotland, it only seemed appropriate to name our small nursery, The Crofter's Garden Nursery.
